Punahou ended Pearl City’s championship ride with a 2-1 victory in the first round of the 2022-23 HHSAA State Division I Girls Soccer Championship Playoffs played at Punahou School on Monday.
Punahou scored on a couple dramatic second half goals by Carly Ann Cormack (46:00) and Dalen Lau (69:00) to take a 2-0 lead with the second half game clock winding down before Pearl City made it interesting with a late push scoring a goal by Taylor Yoshimura (75:00). Punahou controlled the ball for rest of the game to run out the clock and take the first round win.
Punahou moves on to the championship playoff quarterfinals and will face #3 Waiakea on Thursday, 3:00pm at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Field 8.
Big Island Interscholastic Federation 2022-23 Champion, Waiakea drew a first round bye.
