It was a rewarding and proud moment on Saturday as the Rotary Club of Pearlridge (RCOP) and the Pearl City High School Youth Interact Leadership Club came together during the RCOP monthly workday at the native Hawaiian Garden at Puuloa Springs to celebrate receiving and being recognized recently with Good Neighbor and Environmental Hero Awards.

RCOP Community Service Chair Lasar McCabe recently received the City & County Environmental Hero Award, and the RCOP was recognized with four other Central Oahu, Hawaii Rotary District 5000 Clubs for their clear water, revitalization volunteer work along the Pearl Harbor shoreline.

Pearl City High School Interact Club students and their advisor Dane Souza, along with Interact Clubs from Highlands Intermediate School and Our Savior Lutheran School were also a part of the  City & County Good Neighbor, Environmental Hero Awards with the RCOP for their volunteer work and dedication to the Puuloa Springs native Hawaiian Garden Project. All three interact Clubs are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge with financial support also provided by the Pearl City Shopping Center.

Saturday’s heartfelt appreciation and gratitude extended by Lasar to the community volunteers from the RCOP and Interact Clubs representing Pearl City High School, Highlands Intermediate School and Our Savior Lutheran School was an incredible moment that impacted us all.

By Lasar sharing her Environmental Hero Award with the PCHS Interact Club and the RCOP members that were present, the moment was made very special for us who have volunteered many hours the past two years to beautify a portion of the Pearl Harbor Bike Trail and Pearl Harbor Shoreline near Blaisdell Park in Aiea/Pearl City.

Our environmental efforts at Puuloa Springs has improved the Pearl Harbor shoreline and bike path that truly benefits neighbors and bike trail users.

Mahalo to RCOP members and supporters below, led by President Dick Mosko and Lasar McCabe who volunteered on Saturday!
