It was an exciting finish to another classic match-up between Pearl City and Waipio in the opening round of the 2023 Hawaii Little League 10 year old District 7 Championship Tournament played on Saturday at Puuloa Field in Ewa Beach.
Waipio entered the top of the sixth inning trailing Pearl City by a single run at 5-4 before putting together an explosive 6-run rally that gave them a 10-5 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. Waipio held Pearl City scoreless in the bottom of the inning for the win and a chance to advance through the tournament winners bracket.
Waipio will play Waialua on Sunday at Puuloa Field at 10:00am with the winner advancing to the double elimination tournament formatted championship on Wednesday. Waialua defeated Ewa Beach 13-2 (F/4) on Saturday in the second game of the tournament’s opening round doubleheader.
Pearl City will play Ewa Beach on Sunday at 1:00pm in the loser’s bracket.
