Pearl City picked up a solid win over a tough Waipio team 3-1 to advance in the winner’s bracket of the 2023 Hawaii Little League District 7 Majors Championship Tournament played at Pearl City District Park on Saturday.
Pearl City starting pitcher Ryden Kohagura earned the win, while Korey Wagatsuma picked up the save with a strong performance in relief of Kohagura. Kaimana Higa got the start for Waipio with Derek Komiyama pitching in relief.
Pearl City will play Ewa Beach on Sunday in the winner’s bracket at Pearl City District Park with first pitch scheduled for 10:00am. Ewa Beach defeated Waialua 7-1 in the second game of the opening round doubleheader on Saturday. Waipio will take on Waialua on Sunday in a loser’s bracket match-up at 1:00pm at Pearl City District Park. The winner advances to play the loser of Sunday’s Pearl City vs. Ewa Beach game on Monday.
