Mana Loa Nimitz Lions, community volunteers beautify Oahu Urban Garden Center in Pearl City

Jul 23, 2023 | PC Community

Mahalo to my fellow Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club members, other Lions club volunteers, and community volunteers who came together to assist the Oahu Urban Garden Center (OUGC) in Pearl City to clean up and beautify a portion of the garden grounds on Saturday. Volunteers dug out overgrown weeds and grass, cleared brush, racked up leaves while also bagging all green waste and emptying it into the sustainable compost area located on the Oahu Urban Garden Center property.

It was another fantastic opportunity to serve the community as Hawaii District 50 Lions while also enjoying the beauty of the Oahu Urban Garden Center. I came away, once again, with the heartfelt appreciation for the hard work and dedication that it takes to create, maintain, and expand upon the thriving garden.

Mahalo to University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), Lions, and the community for coming together via their unique partnership on Saturday to beautify the garden grounds as the OUGC prepares to welcome the community, schools, visitors with special tours throughout the grounds. Mahalo to Tina from the OUGC for providing tools and refreshments for the volunteers.

Mahalo to Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club members Mary, Diane, and Patrick who play a special role at the OUGC and the community as University of Hawaii Oahu Master Gardeners. We are all truly blessed to volunteer side by side with them as they share their knowledge, expertise, and passion to serve and volunteer at the OUGC.

Also, mahalo to Manal Loa Nimitz Lions club member Elly Frilles for inviting visitors from the Philippines, as well as a group of teachers from Oahu schools who generously volunteered their time on Saturday. They worked really hard. Their smiles and friendlessness were truly inspiring.

Have a wonderful week!
