Pearl City battles past Kaiser 28-24 in OIA DII Football regular season opener

Congratulations to the Pearl City Chargers who rallied past the Kaiser Cougars last night 28-24 in Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II Football played at Kaiser High School.

Pearl City trailed Kaiser late in the fourth quarter before Charger QB Trey Dacoscos hit wide receiver Tobias Vazquez on a 19 yard touchdown strike to move the Charges in front of Cougars 28-24 after a successful PAT by kicker Kaha’i Chang.

On the ensuing kick off, Kaiser found themselves on their own 20 yard line with a couple minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Cougars marched down the field behind QB Sean Connell and running back Dillon Reis. The Cougars were facing third down and and four yards for a first down around the 10 yard line. Pearl City’s Lennon Elder saved the day for the Chargers intercepting a pass from Cougar QB Donnell at the goal line and returning it 80 yards to the Cougars 20 yard line. The Cougars got the ball back with 7 seconds left in the ball game after stopping the Chargers on four downs. The game ended after the Charger defense brought the Kaiser QB down as time ran out.

The difference in the game was decided by the Cougars missing all PAT and two-point conversion attempts. Both the Chargers and Cougars scored four touchdowns each in the ball game.

Charger QB Trey Dacoscos threw for 363 yards, completing 23-43 with four touchdowns and three interceptions.

Charger wide receiver Tobias Vazquez had an exceptional game winning performance hauling in 6 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Bobby Best and Keaton Tomas both caught key touchdown passes from QB Dacoscos in the ball game for the Chargers. Keaton had a great game hauling in 8 passes for 161 yards along with his touchdown reception.

The Cougars received an outstanding performance from running back Dillon Reis who ran for 212 yards on 21 carries with 2 touchdowns

Cougar QB Sean Connell completed 15-32 for 173 yards, 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions

Cougar wide receiver Keagan Lime caught 9 passes for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Chargers (1-0 in league play, 2-0 overall) will take on the Roosevelt Rough Riders (2-0) at Roosevelt High School on Friday, August 25 with kick off set for 7:30pm.
