The Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association kicked off their 2023-2024 annual financial support of Pearl City District Complex Schools Monday morning with $1000.00 check donation presentations to Pearl City Highlands Elementary School and Waiau Elementary School. The annual PCSC Merchants Association $1000.00 check donations rotate (two schools per year) between the eight Pearl City District Schools.

The PCSC is grateful for the opportunity to support the ten Pearl City Complex Schools through financial assistance, leadership, mentorship, and volunteer opportunities that directly benefits each school and their students’ needs for a quality, rewarding, and fun educational experience.

Troy Takazono, Principal, Waiau Elementary School

“I would like to thank the Pearl City Shopping Center for donating a thousand dollars for us. We really appreciate it. As you know, we always need help with funding for education and this will help us get supplies in the classroom for our students.”

Keith Hui, Principal, Pearl City Highlands Elementary School

“On behalf of the students at PCHES, we are super appreciative and grateful for the generosity.  We want to use the funds to support some of our students who may not have the funds to access certain opportunities.  Consider it as an “equivalent” of what we traditionally know as financial aid but at an elementary school level and for a demonstrated need.  For example, some programs are extracurricular and students may need to purchase “team apparel” such as sports or academic program or leadership program, sometimes, its an entry fee or admissions but students and their families may be experiencing some financial hardship, and if the support was not available from these funds, the student would not be able to participate.  So on behalf of the students, we thank you in advance for the opportunities and access you are able to provide to our students.”

Irwin Santos, Events Coordinator, Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association

“Pearl City Shopping Center (PCSC) has been a landmark resident for decades serving the local community.  We believe in giving back by donating to help foster youth growth starting with our Pearl City District Elementary schools.  At times, private assistance is needed to fill the void where state budgetary constraints limit purchase for supplies, services, or funding for school activities.”

Pearl City Shopping Center owner Duane Kurisu has cultivated his philosophy and vision of giving back to the Pearl City community through the years while supported by the success of the Pearl City Shopping Center. Mr. Kurisu leads a PCSC management team and staff dedicated to providing for the needs of Pearl City residents and their ohana. The annual PCSC Community Outreach Program delivers financial assistance and community volunteer partnerships perpetuated by the success of PCSC merchants who have provided world class products and services for over 60+ years to the Pearl City community, as well as visitors to the community.

The PCSC is also proud to support the Pearl City community through event sponsorships of the annual Pearl City Shopping Center Christmas Parade, annual Pearl City Shopping Center Halloween Costume Contest & Trick or Treat Parade, annual Pearl City Shopping Center Chinese New Year Celebration & Lion Dance Blessing, annual Pearl City Christmas Toys For Tots Toy Drive, and annual Pearl City Keiki Easter Egg Hunt.
