The Rotary Club of Pearlridge (RCOP) held their monthly Pu’uloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden clean-up and maintenance workday along the Pearl Harbor Bike Trail and historic Pearl Harbor shoreline in Aiea/Pearl City on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Saturday’s workday was an overwhelming success as community volunteers from the Rotary Club of Pearlridge were joined in force by volunteers from the Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club, Pearl City High School Rotary Interact Club, Highlands Intermediate School Rotary Interact Club, and an amazing group of community volunteer friends and supporters.

The group started out early Saturday morning and attacked their workday tasks of weed whacking overgrown weeds and grass along the bike path, pulling out weeds and grass in the native Hawaiian Garden, clearing brush and trimming branches near the Pu’uloa Springs waterway, and picking up rubbish along the bike path heading East from Pu’uloa Springs to the bridge near Cutter Ford and Blaisdell Park, and West from Pu’uloa Springs to the Hawaiian Electric Power Plant.

Following the clean-up and maintenance tasks, The Rotary Club of Pearlridge, Eric Fujimoto Foundation, and Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association each presented their annual financial support to members of the Pearl City High School Interact Club and Highlands Intermediate interact Club with $250.00 check donations in support of the club’s academic programs, events, extra-curricular activities, and community volunteer projects. The check presentations were made in the Pu’uloa Springs Native Hawaiian Garden with the beautiful backdrop of Pearl Harbor touching the shoreline.

It was another very rewarding community service oriented, sustainable, beautification project shared together with our wonderful partners and motivation to achieve our goal and mission to improve and care for the environment for all to enjoy. We are fortunate to work side by side with our Rotary Youth Interact leaders who truly inspire us every day, to our senior leadership from the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club who are the heart and soul of our success while linking our past to the future, and the commitment from our corporate and community partners who are the foundation to supporting our collaborative efforts well into the future.

We finished our workday and check donation presentations with fellowship while enjoying ono refreshments in Blaisdell Park. It was a lot of fun hanging out together. Thank you to RCOP President and Past District Governor Dick Mosko for providing the refreshments.

Thank you to Rotary Club of Pearlridge President Dick Mosko, Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club President Dexter Aoki, Pearl City High School Teacher/Interact Advisor Dane Souza, and Highlands Intermediate School Student Activities Coordinator/Interact Advisor Eric White for their leadership and commitment to serving our community.
