The Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club and friends, led by President Dexter Aoki, volunteered their time on Saturday, September 23, 2023, to help clean-up Aiea High School’s thriving Aquaponics Garden, as well as dig out, level, and lay down cardboard as a weed blocker in a 30-foot garden bed adjacent to the aquaponics garden.

Aiea High School SPED teacher Brian Camello welcomed and worked alongside the Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club volunteers during the early Saturday morning workday. Mr. Camello’s SPED students care for the Aquaponics Garden and will soon have the opportunity to grow vegetables in the newly restored vegetable and fruit beds.

It was another rewarding Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club community volunteer project that once again supported and benefitted schools in the Aiea District Complex. Mahalo to Mr. Camello for inviting our Lions Club to be a part of the workday project.

I am so proud to be a Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club community volunteer. Under our President Dexter Aoki’s leadership, club members are in the Aiea, Pearl City, and other communities on Oahu, every Saturday while making a difference with sustainable, community beautification projects that truly impacts and benefits residents and their ohana while improving the environment in which we live.
