PEARL CITY OVER KALANI 26-21, CELEBRATE 7-0 PERFECT REGULAR SEASON ON SENIOR NIGHT

The Pearl City Chargers capped a perfect 7-0 2023 Oahu Interscholastic Association Regular Season last night with a come from behind 26-21 win over the visiting Kalani Falcons at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium.

The Chargers also bid Aloha to the 2024 Senior Class of football players and Cheer Team in front of adoring family, friends and amazing Charger supporters as they played and performed in their last regular season home game of their Charger careers.

Kalani came pretty close to spoiling Pear City’s perfect season scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take a 20-21 lead over the Chargers with 4:26 left in the ball game. The Falcons scored their first fourth quarter touchdown on an 11 yard pass from QB Kynan McCartney to Kai Kobayashi and a successful PAT to pull within a touchdown at 20-14 with 8:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons scored their second fourth quarter touchdown on an exciting 73 yard run by Jordan Amalato and a successful PAT that gave Kalani a 20-21 lead with 4:26 remaining in the game.

The Chargers came right back to retake the lead scoring on a 9 yard touchdown pass from QB Trey Dacoscos to Lennon Elder. The Chargers missed the 2-point conversion.

Pearl City stopped Kalani on the Falcons next possession and ran out the game clock for the win and perfect season.

Pearl City QB Trey Dacoscos had an outstanding performance completing 25-36 for 304 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.

Koali’i Torres led the Chargers in receiving catching 6 passes for 95 yards and one touchdown. Lennon Elder caught 6 passes for 76 and scored two key touchdowns including the game winner. Derek Kusan caught 4 passes for 50 yards and one touchdown. Tobias Vazquez hauled in 3 passes for 49 yards.

Kalani QB Kynan McCartney completed 12-20 for 121 yards and one touchdown.

Falcon running back Jordan Amalato rushed for an amazing 197 yard on 23 carries with two touchdowns that included a 73 yard rushing touchdown that tied the game at 20-20 in the fourth quarter.

Silas Soberano led Falcon in receiving with 99 yards on 6 catches.

The Chargers will be seeded #1 in the upcoming OIA DII Championship Playoffs.
