Radford steps it up in the second half to overpower Pearl City 59-40

The visiting Radford Rams went into halftime last night trailing the Pearl City Chargers 27-23 in OIA Western Division I Girls Varsity Basketball but came out firing in the third quarter outscoring the Chargers 16-2 to take a 39-29 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Rams poured it on in the fourth quarter scoring 20 points to the Chargers 11 points to earn a powerful 59-40 win.

Jirah Villanueva was the dominating and driving force for the Rams with an outstanding performance while leading all scorers in the ball game with 23 points. From start to finish, Vlllanueva was a scoring machine along with her great ball handling skills from her guard position.

Julissa Hollinger (13 points) and Kourtney Smith (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Rams.

Pearl City ‘s Shilee Scanlan had a good ball game while leading the Chargers with 13 points. Kaiesha DeWeever pumped in 10 points for the Chargers.

With the win, Radford improved to 6-1 in regular season league standings, 12-2 overall. Pearl City is 4-3 in regular season league standings, 7-4 overall.

Pearl City and Radford return to league play on Tuesday, January 16 with the Chargers hosting Waipahu and the Rams hosting Kapolei.
