Campbell drops Pearl City to 0-3 with 15-7 win behind Saber ace Hunter Lindsey

The Pearl City Chargers find themselves in unfamiliar territory with regard to Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division I Baseball standings as the Chargers remained winless at 0-3 after losing to the visiting Campbell Sabers 15-7 on Wednesday at Pearl City High School. Saber ace hurler Hunter Lindsey earned the win in 5 1/3 innings while allowing 4 runs, 9 hits with 4 walks and 1 strikeout. Noah Bernal took the loss for the Chargers pitching 2 1/3 innings while allowing 6 runs, 5 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Pearl City sent 6 Charger pitchers to the mound against the Sabers.

Campbell led Pearl City 1-0 after one inning and went out to a comfortable 6-0 lead after jumping on the Chargers scoring five runs in the top of the third inning. The Sabers scored 2 runs in the top of the fourth. The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of fifth inning with a single run, but the Sabers answered right back scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 11-1 lead. Entering the bottom of sixth inning, the Chargers found themselves down by 10 runs and possibly an early exit due to the 10-run mercy rule. That wasn’t to be as the Chargers rallied for five runs that cut the deficit to 11-6 after six complete innings. Campbell came right back scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 15-6 lead. The Chargers scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh where the game ended with the final score 15-7 and a Saber win.

Charger bats finally came alive against the Sabers after struggling at the plate in their first two ball games to start the regular season. The Chargers outhit the Sabers 14-11.
