Aiea ends Pearl City’s OIA DI Baseball Championship quest with 7-3 quarterfinal win

The W1 Aiea Na Ali’i executed a dramatic six run, fifth inning rally to drop W5 Pearl City to the consolation round of the 2024 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Baseball Championship Playoffs with a 7-3 quarterfinal win on Wednesday at Aiea High School. With the win, the Na Ali’i advanced to Thursday’s semifinal round against E2 Roosevelt. Roosevelt defeated W3 Campbell 8-2 in a quarterfinal matchup played at Roosevelt High School. Campbell will take on Pearl City in the 5th/6th place semifinals on Thursday.

Aiea found themselves trailing Pearl City 3-1 entering the bottom of the 5th inning before the Na Ali’i jumped on Charger starting pitcher Devin Fujino and reliever Halona Felix for six runs including a two-run homerun by Bostan Ujimori. Pearl City got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning off a solo homerun shot to rightfield by Logan Honma. The Chargers also scored single runs in the top of the second and third innings.

Aiea starting pitcher Brennan Panis earned the win for the Na Ali’i. Panis pitched 5 complete innings while allowing 3 runs, 7 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Panis also batted 1-3 with a triple, RBI, and a run scored. Kylan Kono pitched 2 innings to close it out for the Na Ali’i.
