Fujino lifts Pearl City 3-2 over Aiea in 11 inning HHSAA State DI Baseball Championship Playoffs opening round thriller

The Pearl Citty Chargers advanced on Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium to the HHSAA State Baseball Division I Quarterfinals after defeating the Aiea Na Ali’i 3-2 on a bottom of the 11th inning game winning RBI single by Devin Yoshino that scored Tyler Oshiro from third base with the go ahead run. Pearl City will face #1 seed Kamehameha-Kapalama in a quarterfinal match-up on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm at Les Murakami Stadium.

Aiea took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Bostan Ujimori that scored Ryen Abe from third base. The Na Ali’i took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on an in the park homerun by Ryen Abe.

Pearl City tied the ball game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a 2 RBI single by Noah Bernal that scored Logan Honma and Devin Fujino.

Pearl City brought it home in the bottom of the 11th inning on Devin’s Fujino RBI shot down the leftfield line that scored Tyler Oshiro from third base.

Devin Fujino also got the start for Pearl City pitching 5 complete innings before being relieved by Noah Bernal. Noah Kia earned the win in relief in the 11th inning for the Chargers.

Aidan Yoshida got the start for the Na Ali’I pitching 5.1 innings. Dylan Wong took the loss pitching 2.2 innings in relief for the Na Ali’i.

Pearl City (9-8, overall) will have a tough challenge on Wednesday in the quarterfinals against the Kamehameha-Kapalama Warriors (16-5, overall) who enter the 2024 HHSAA State Baseball Division I Championship Playoffs as the #1 seed and 2024 Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I Champions.

Congratulations to the Chargers on Tuesday’s opening round win! It was a total team effort as the boys played and won as one. This is a very special and talented Chargers baseball team. All Heart!

Also, congratulations to Devin Fujino for putting it all together at the plate and on the base paths. Devin hit 2-6 with 1 RBI (game winner) and 2 runs scored.
