The Pearl City High School Class of 1974 marked their 50th anniversary on Sunday, June 2, 2024 with a legacy tree planting project held at Pearl City High School. The PCHS Class of ’74 has the distinction of being the first graduating class at Pearl City High School and celebrated with the living legacy tree planting project 50 years from the date of their historic graduation on June 2, 1974. Sunday’s living legacy tree planting adds another crape myrtle tree to join five other trees planted on the PCHS campus in 2021 as a part of the “Purple Tree Project”

“The class of 1974, was the first graduating class of PCHS, and wanted to leave a living legacy to mark the 50th anniversary of their graduation.  The date, June 2, was selected for the tree planting because it was on that exact date 50 years ago that Pearl City High School held their first commencement on the field on campus.

The 2024 Tree planting team Mary Sensui, Dean Sensui, Lynn Tanaka and Mik Pavao worked tirelessly for several months to prepare the surrounding area which was overgrown with tall grass and weeds.

It was a beautiful day as classmates, former teachers and friends gathered to be a part of the tree planting ceremony.  It is the hope that all graduating classes plant a tree on their 50th anniversary.

The crape myrtle tree planted yesterday joins the five trees planted on campus in 2021 for the “Purple Tree Project”.  The five trees were planted to celebrate PCHS’s 50th anniversary, each tree representing the five decades of graduating classes.”

Mahalo to the PCHS ’74 Tree Planting Team for the opportunity to be a part of a very special moment that truly adds and shines upon their legacy as they give back to our Charger ohana past, present, and future generations to come. Their gift of life is rooted in Charger Pride.

“Upon the hill, Charger Pride is born …”
