BACK TO BACK! KAPAA BEATS PEARL CITY 7-5 TO REPEAT AS DII STATE CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to the newly crowned Kapaa Warriors who won the 2025 HHSAA State Division II Softball Championship after defeating the Pearl City Chargers 7-5 Friday afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in Manoa.

The Warriors captured their second HHSAA State Division II Softball Championship in a row and capped a 15-0 undefeated regular and post-season. The Chargers 13-1 suffered their first loss in 2025.

The Chargers came out strong and confident at the plate against Warrior ace pitcher Karlee Rose Keale who was coming off an outstanding 17-0, no-hitter performance against PAC-5 on Thursday in the championship semifinals.

Pearl City scored a run in the top of the first inning and added a couple more runs in the top of the second inning on a 2-run homerun by Pearl City starting pitcher Haley Shinjo. The Chargers took an early 3-0 lead. The Warriors came back with a four-run rally in the bottom of third inning to take a 4-3 lead. Pearl City fought back, tying the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning.

Kapaa made their run towards the championship by adding a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Pearl City mounted a top of the seventh inning rally scoring a run to pull within two runs of Kapaa at 7-5 but got thrown out at second base to end the game.

Karlee Rose Keale earned the championship clinching win for the Warriors going the distance while allowing 5 runs, 7 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Pearl City’s Haley Shinjo took the loss for the Chargers pitching 7 complete innings while allowing 7 runs, 11 hits with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts. Shinjo also contributed at the plate with a 2-run homerun.

Also, congratulations to the amazing Pearl City Chargers for a great 2025 season. The Charger ohana is extremely proud of your success in 2025. The Chargers started 7 freshmen (including starting pitcher Haley Shinjo) 1 junior, and 1 senior (Aloha Saunette) in the championship game. The Chargers will return strong and experienced in 2026.
