The visiting Waialua Bulldogs gave the Pearl City Chargers all they could handle last night in a 37-30 loss in Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II Football played at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium.

Pearl City improved to 2-0, (3-2 overall) while Waialua remained winless at 0-2 (0-4 overall) in league play.

With only 33 players suited up for the game and many playing both offense and defense, the Bulldogs had an opportune chance to take the lead with 2 minutes to go in the game while trailing the Chargers 37-30 but missed a wide open receiver on fourth down and that would have possibly led to a touchdown and 37-36 on the scoreboard. A successful 2-point conversion would have won the game for the Bulldogs. The Chargers took possession and ran out the clock.

Pearl City QB Ikaika Torres once again led the Chargers with another outstanding performance completing 22-32 for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. Torres was also voted impact player of the game by Spectrum OC 16 who broadcasted the game live last night.

Torres connected through the air to Maiaku Lii, 4 catches for 86 yards; Christian Kihewa, 6 catches for 40 yards and 1 touchdown; Kaze Texeira, 3 catches for 26 yards; Bronson Abendanio, 2 catches for 24 yards and 1 touchdown; Noah Sullivan, 6 catches for 19 yards.

The Chargers ground game was led by Alohi Gaspar, 12 rushes for 83 yards and 1 touchdown; Aidan Minami, 8 rushes for 68 yards and 1 touchdown; Adriel Jonas Garrido, 4 rushes for 37 yards and 1 touchdown.

Waialua QB Emery Abilla led the Bulldogs with an inspiring performance. Through the air, Abilla completed 22-33 for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns. Abilla also rushed 6 times for 14 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Waialua top receivers: Sky Hirota, 6 catches for 94 yards; Hayze Ramos, 5 catches for 70 yards and 1 touchdown; Kymani Soriano-Pascual, 7 catches for 69 yards and I touchdown; Brycen Williams, 2 catches for 16 yards; Jeremiah Clark, 1 catch for 4 yards.

Waialua leading rushers:  Jace Apau, 10 rushes for 49 yards; Emery Abilla, 6 rushes for 14 yards and 2 touchdowns; Jeremiah Kahalawai 6 rushes for 10 yards.

The Chargers return to league play on Friday, September 12 against the Kaimuki Bulldogs at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:30pm.
