Pearl City and Campbell light up the scoreboard with Lady Chargers coming out on top 19-18

The Pearl City Lady Chargers scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break an 18-18 tie and defeat the visiting Campbell Lady Sabers 19-18 yesterday afternoon in Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Softball played at Pearl City High School.

Pearl City is 3-4 while Campbell improved to 4-3 in regular season league standings.

Pearl City’s Haley Shinjo earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Lilyanni Mata. Mata pitched 5 2/3 innings while allowing 15 runs, 11 hits with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts. Shinjo pitched 1 1/3 innings while allowing 3 runs, 2 hits with 1 walk and no strikeouts.

Kaira Sakai took the loss for the Lady Sabers in relief pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing 3 runs, 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Kaienna Fuentes-Arellano got the start for the Lady Sabers pitching 3 complete innings while allowing 11 runs, 13 hits with 6 walks and no strikeouts. Lily Perreira pitched 2/3 innings while allowing 4 runs, 3 hits with 3 walks and no strikeouts.

Yesterday’s match-up was an amazing display of  offense with a total of 37 runs scored and 35 hits pounded out in the ball game.

In my opinion, the 2026 Lady Chargers rank as one of the most exciting Pearl City softball teams to date.
