Event Details:
- The Hawaii State Science & Engineering Fair (HSSEF) began in 1958 as the “Hawaiian Science Fair.” Students conduct scientific research and prepare a display board to explain that research, and lastly present their findings to scientists, organizations, and the community. Fair participants can win cash, scholarships, and other special rewards. To qualify for the state science fair, students must receive a nomination from their associated district science fair (at which our students also earned 1st place for the Junior Division, the HAIS (Hawaii Association of Independent Schools) District Science Fair). Usually the top 30% from each district fair will qualify for the state level. The fair is divided into the Junior Division (6-8th grade) and the Senior Division (9-12th grade). For Hawaii, ~6,000 participants from over 100 different public and private schools compete every year starting from the school fair level.
