By Barry Villamil, Past President, Rotary Club of Pearlridge
I was truly honored to represent the Rotary Club of Pearlridge (RCOP) on Friday, October 16 to present third graders and their teachers at Manana Elementary School in Pearl City with brand new dictionaries as a part of Rotary International’s Dictionary 5000 project. The brand new dictionaries were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge Foundation. I received a heartfelt, warm welcome from the third graders and their teachers, Ms. Iris Stokes and Ms. Alyssa Enoki.
We all had a great time looking up words and their definitions, as well as fun and interactive content contained in their dictionaries. The third graders were also introduced to the Principles of Rotary International’s Four Way Test that was included in the inside cover of their dictionaries. They were encouraged to learn and practice the Principles of the Four Way Test throughout the school year with the Rotary Club of Pearlridge returning at the end of the school year to award one boy and one girl with a Good Citizen Award that contains a Congratulatory letter from RCOP President Tim Mehlhorn and a $50.00 check scholarship.
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge will wrap up their 2026 free dictionary presentations next week with visits to Pearl City Highlands Elementary School and Kanoelani Elementary School.
