By Barry Villamil, President, Rotary Club of Pearlridge
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge would like to send their congratulations to the Pearl City Elementary School (PCEL) Chess Team who recently placed 4th at the 2025 Hawaii Chess Federation HCF State Championships.
We would also like to say mahalo and extend a heartfelt Aloha to PCEL Chess Team Head Coach Major Joshua Darby (USMC) who is moving to California in June. Major Darby will be truly missed, and we are grateful for your friendship and the opportunity to financially support the PCEL Chess Team over the past few years.

Here are some photos from the Hawaii Chess Federation HCF State Championship last month, at which PCES took an honorable 4th place.
We are so proud of our students, who all behaved wonderfully and demonstrated true good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. We should be very proud that we represented Pearl City Purple extremely well this year.
Thanks for all your support at the Rotary Club of Pearlridge. Staff Sergeant Matthew Washington (US Army) has taken over coaching these wonderful students, and I’m departing the island to CA on June 1st.
