Pearl City opens 2025 regular DII football season with 34-13 win over McKinley

The Pearl City Chargers (1-0, 2-2) kicked off their 2025 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II Football regular season by overwhelming the visiting McKinley Tigers (0-1, 0-2) last night 34-13 at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium.

Pearl City’s combination of a potent offensive attack and solid defense propelled the Chargers to open the regular season with an exciting and spirited win in front their Charger ohana cheering them on from the stands.

Pearl City Chargers starting QB Ikaika Torres returned to line-up after sitting out last week’s preseason loss to the Moanalua Menehune due to an injury. Torres had an outstanding performance leading the Charger offense through the air completing 27-51 for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Kaze Texeira led the Chargers in receiving with an incredible performance hauling in 10 passes from Torres for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adriel Jonas Garrido led the Chargers ground game rushing for 52 yards on 9 carries and 1 touchdown.

McKinley starting QB Fabien Pudja threw for 98 yards completing 15-37 passes with 1 touchdown.

Both teams were held to no points in the second half scoring all their points in the first and second quarters.

The Chargers return to action on Thursday, September 4, against the Waialua Bulldogs at Pearl City High School.
