The Pearl City Chargers pulled off an opening regular season 2-game sweep of the Campbell Sabers on Friday with a 5-0 (F/8) shutout victory in OIA Western Division I Baseball played at Pearl City High School.
Imipono Kala pitched a gem for the Chargers with a 5 inning performance while allowing 1 hit, no runs, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Naden Nihipali pitched 2 innings in relief for the Chargers while allowing no hits, no runs with no walks and 2 strikeouts.
Vaden Sabino took the loss for the Sabers pitching 7 innings while allowing 2 hits, 4 runs, with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Christian Maiava pitched in relief of Sabino allowing 2 hits and 1 run.
Pearl City’s Ian Wicklund came up big for Chargers at the plate blasting a 3 RBI triple in the top of the 8th inning. Wicklund hit 1-4, 3 RBI, run scored; Noah Kawakami went 1-4, triple, RBI, run scored; David Englar 1-3, RBI; Cohen Adaro 1-3, run scored.
Ian McKay, Jr. went 1-3 for the only hit of the ball game for the Sabers.
Pearl City improved 2-0 in league standings, while Campbell fell to 0-2.
