The Kalaheo Mustangs remained unbeaten in Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II Football League standings after defeating the Pearl City Chargers last night 37-28 at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium. The Mustangs moved to a perfect 3-0 league, 4-0 overall. The Chargers are 3-1 league, 4-1 overall.
The Kalaheo ground game propelled the Mustangs to victory compiling 230 yards to Pearl City’s 77 rushing yards. Kalaheo star running back Marquez Mellor led all rushers in the game picking up 71 yards on 21 carries with 2 TD’s. QB Loch Moorman rushed for 47 yards on 10 carries. Jayden Carreiro rushed for 40 yards on 2 carries. Storm Kane rushed for 27 yards on 1 carry with 1 TD. Zayne Farley rushed for 17 yards on 3 carries with 1 TD.
Pearl City won the battle through the air with Chargers QB Jayden Delos Santos throwing for 155 yards completing 18-24 with 3 TD’s. Delos Santos threw touchdowns passes to Maiaku Lii, 5 catches for 39 yards and 1 TD, and Kaze Teixeira, 5 catches for 27 yards, 2 TD’s. On the ground, Pearl City’s Alohi Gaspar picked up 26 yards on 8 carries with 1 TD. Cole Reason rushed for 35 yards on 10 carries. Kalaheo QB Loch Moorman completed 3-13 for 20 yards and a TD.
The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The Mustangs scored 23 points, which included a safety, to take a 23-15 lead going into halftime and never looked back.
