St. Francis gets past Pearl City 27-13 in D2 varsity football (8/31/2018)

The Pearl City Chargers varsity team lost a tough game 27-13 to the visiting St. Francis Saints in a duel of top Division 2 schools representing the Oahu Interscholastic Association and Interscholastic League of Honolulu on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Pearl City High School’s Edwin Bino Neves Stadium.

St. Francis QB Bubba Akana threw for 261 yards and 2 TD’s.with 2 INT’s. Akana completed 13 of 31 passes. Shepherd Kekahuna caught 3 passes for 101 yards. Makana Poole caught 3 passes for 36 yards and 1 TD. Jonan Aina-Chaves rushed for 66 yards on 5 carries before leaving the game with an injury in the first quarter. Kain Lyman rushed for 52 yards on 3 carries and 1 TD.

Pearl City QB Makana Canyon completed 9 of 20 for 95 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Canyon hooked up with Thomas King on 10 yard TD toss in fourth quarter. Micah Quillopo-Jamile completed 1/1 on a 19 yard scoring strike to Jordan Oshiro in the second quarter. Quillopo-Jamile also caught 3 passes for 41 yards to lead the Charger receiving core.

St. Francis remains unbeaten at 3-0 in league play, 4-0 overall while Pearl City is 2-0 in league play, 2-2 overall.

The Chargers return to action on Friday, September 7 against the McKinley Tigers at Roosevelt High School.
