Message from the Editor: Pearl City awards & recognition

 

Aloha Everyone!

Pearl City is a very special place in which to live in. Our Pearl City schools receive both state and national awards and recognition year after year. Incredible accomplishments produced from the exceptional efforts made by our school administrations, volunteers and especially from our very talented students.

This past month has brought awards and recognition to our Pearl City District Complex schools from the elementary, intermediate and the high school levels.

MyPearlCity.com would like to recognize the following for their accomplishments:

1. Momilani Elementary School is chosen by the Hawaii Department of Education as the number one ranked public school out of 357 schools in Hawaii.

2. Momilani Elementary School Principal, Mrs. Doreen Higa is nominated as the Leeward District's representative for the Hawaii Distinguished Principal of the Year Award.

3. Highlands Intermediate School Robotics team wins World Championship competition in Dallas, Texas.

4. Pearl City High School teacher, Ms. Gay Ching was chosen by a panel of HASTE members (Hawaii Association of Safety Traffic Educators) and the Hawaii Driver Education cadre as the "Teacher of Excellence" for the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA) -a national organization for the year 2010.

5. Pearl City High School Driver's Education students compete in the Operation Driver Excellence Competition held at Aloha Stadium on April 16 and 17. The PCHS team won a $1000.00 award from Allstate

6. Pearl City Chargers Varsity Baseball team wins the 2010 OIA Red Division Championship for the 4th year in a row going undefeated with a record of 15-0 through the regular and post season play.

7..Pearl City High School students win the Hurley "Walk the Walk" Regional Video Challenge and will compete for the National Title in July at Huntington Beach, California.

8. Semi-Sweet Band from Pearl City High School place in the top 5 for the Ford Motor Company - "Belt it Out" Competition. The band composed an original song that focused on "Distractions while Driving". Semi-Sweet is in the running to be chosen the overall National Champion which will be announced on May 31, 2010.
